Beginning Quilting 102
Pattern: "Sail" by Homemade Emily Jane
This is the second class in our Beginning Quilting series. In addition to refining the skills you learned in Quilting 101, you will also learn how to piece half-square triangles and assemble different types of blocks.
At the end of this class, you will have completed the top of this quilt (throw size 64 x 80).
We will be using a Layer Cake (10-inch squares) and background fabric from a bolt.
The objectives for this 102 class are to learn:
- Easy method for half-square triangles (multiples of 2 and 8 at a time)
- Scant quarter inch
- More precision in sewing
- Lay out that is pleasing to the eye
Supply List:
- Pattern: Homemade Emily Jane "Sail"
- 10-1/2" square ruler (12-1/2 square will do)
- 24” X 6-1/2" long ruler
- Cotton Thread to match fabric (we recommend Aurifil)
- Rotary Cutter with sharp blade
- Quilters' pins
- A properly working sewing machine. We will be sewing during the first class!
- Fabric: 1 Layer Cake (10-squares, 40-42 pieces) for "Triangles"
- 2-2/3 yd of contrasting fabric for background
Pre-class assignment:
Familiarize yourself with pattern (have any questions ready for class). Please iron background fabric before class and cut 9 and 10 inch squares.
