Beginning Quilting 102

Classes


Learn quilting techniques with this first class in our beginner's quilting series. You will learn how to quickly and accurately use a rotary cutter, piece strips together with a quarter inch seam, square up blocks, and add borders to your quilt top. At the end of class you will have a completed quilt top.

This is the second class in our Beginning Quilting series. Learn how to bind your quilted projects. You will learn how to cut both cross grain and bias binding strips and prepare them for binding. Try out two different ways to attach your binding to your quilt, and learn how to miter the corners.

We invite you to join us in supporting the fabulous non-profit "Days for Girls" in this full-day open house of serging! Days for Girls facilitates the creation and distribution of washable menstrual hygiene products for girls across the world, making it possible for girls to continue their education and participate in their community. We are proud to support the work of our local chapter!

Learn how to embroider with your new Baby Lock embroidery machine. We will learn hooping techniques, placement, correct stabilizer usage, correct bobbin and top thread, problem solving and more.

Learn the basics for your new Baby Lock machine. This will include maintenance, threading, bobbin winding, tension settings, proper use of feet, thread and needle theory, do's and don'ts of proper sewing techniques, and more!

We will explore creative uses for your new Baby Lock machine. The decorative sewing techniques that will be covered are applique, twin needle sewing, heirloom sewing, and free motion quilting. If you had additional feet included with your machine that were not covered in class 1, please bring them and we will cover them in this class.

This fun quilt will give you plenty of practice with improv cutting and piecing of curves and stripe piecing. Kit required. Class dates TBD - call and let us know you are interested in being contacted when dates are set!

This block of the month quilt includes plenty of embroidered applique details that add Christmas magic! Over 10 sessions (Feb. - Nov.) you will construct the top of this quilt. Kits are available - choose a border fabric with white or black background. Kits also include extra details like vinyl (for the snowglobes) and mylar (for the strand of embroidered lights).

You will learn different techniques for quilting together your quilt top, batting, and backing. You will work with a 22-inch square sample piece - we will not create an actual project in this class.

This beautiful wall-hanging is made with straight seam piecing that results in a curved look. We'll show you how to use a non-permanent glue stick to help with construction. Finished wall-hanging measures 34-1/2" by 34-1/2". Class meets for 3 sessions.

Learn how to do piecing on your serger. After you complete the table runner top, you will quilt it using the serger chain stitch.

Guide class to learn your serger. In this class we will learn basic threading and many serging techniques. Come with four different colored threads.

We will learn gathering, rolled hem, flatlock, stitching, decorative stitches, and many other techniques. We will also experiment with decorative threads.

This quilt is a stunning masterpiece! You'll learn strip quilting, how to effectively work with 1/2" squares, and some unique block construction. Kits are an additional $200. You must have prior quilting experience and familiarity with rotary cutting to take this class.

Private Lessons

At this time we offer lessons for adults only (lessons for teens and older kids on a case-by-case basis).
Lessons take place at Creative Sewing Center and are $30 per one hour of lesson time ($40 per hour if working with store owner, Lisa Flyte).
